DESCRIPTION
Hydroxypropyl Starch Ether (HPS) is a chemically modified natural plant-based polymer designed to optimize the performance of dry-mix mortars and gypsum products. As a high-performance rheology modifier, it works synergistically with cellulose ethers (like HPMC or HEMC) to significantly improve the construction properties of building materials.
In the formulation of tile adhesives, wall putties, and masonry mortars, HPS is primarily used to provide instant thickening and superior anti-sagging properties. Its unique molecular structure allows it to modify the yield stress of the mortar, ensuring that heavy materials remain in place on vertical surfaces without slipping. Additionally, HPS imparts a distinct “lubricating” effect, which reduces the friction between the tool and the material, making the application process much smoother and less labor-intensive.
Beyond workability, HPS contributes to the overall stability of the system by preventing layering and bleeding of the mixture.
