INTRODUCTION


External wall insulation system/external wall insulation composite system(EIFS/ETICS) is an insulation and finishing system placed on the outside of the building’s exterior wall. It mainly provides insulation, waterproofing, and finishing surfaces for the exterior wall. It is generally composed of bonding layer, insulation layer, plaster mortar protective layer, and finishing layer.

APPLICATION

ETICS is a thermal insulation system for building exterior walls. It improves the thermal insulation performance, energy saving effect and comfort of buildings by adding thermal insulation materials (such as polystyrene foam board, rock wool, etc.) and protective layers (such as plastering mortar, mesh cloth, etc.) on the surface of the building exterior wall.

The main components of ETICS:

1. Adhesive layer: used to fix the thermal insulation material on the surface of the exterior wall.

2. Insulation layer: usually uses materials such as polystyrene foam board (EPS), extruded polystyrene board (XPS) or rock wool to provide thermal insulation performance.

3. Plastering layer: including plastering mortar and reinforced mesh cloth, used to protect the insulation layer and improve crack resistance and durability.

4. Finishing layer: can be paint, tiles or other decorative materials, used to beautify the appearance and provide waterproof, anti-fouling and other functions.

In EIFS/ETICS, additives are very important, and different additives have different effects:

HPMC (hydroxypropyl methylcellulose): As a water retainer and thickener, HPMC can improve the construction performance of mortar, prevent water from evaporating too quickly, enhance adhesion and anti-slip properties, and ensure the uniformity and stability of mortar.

HEMC (hydroxyethyl methylcellulose): Similar to HPMC, HEMC is also a water retainer and thickener that can improve the fluidity and construction performance of mortar, while enhancing crack resistance and durability.

RDP (redispersible latex powder): As a polymer modifier, RDP can significantly improve the bonding strength, flexibility and impact resistance of mortar, while improving water resistance and durability, ensuring a strong bond between the insulation system and the substrate.

PVA (polyvinyl alcohol): As a binder and film former, PVA can enhance the adhesion and cohesion of mortar, improve construction and surface smoothness, and improve water resistance.

PP Fiber: As a reinforcing material, PP fiber can disperse the stress inside the mortar, reduce shrinkage cracks, improve crack resistance and impact resistance, and enhance the overall durability of the system.

HPS: As a water reducer, HPS can reduce the water consumption of the mortar, improve density and strength, and improve fluidity and construction performance.

Calcium Formate: As an early strength agent and antifreeze agent, calcium formate can accelerate the early strength development of the mortar, improve construction performance in low temperature environments, and improve water resistance.

Silicone Hydrophobic Powder: As a hydrophobic agent, silane hydrophobic powder can give the mortar excellent waterproof properties, prevent water penetration, and improve the durability and anti-aging properties of the system.

The synergistic effects of these materials in ETICS:

Improved construction performance: through water retention, thickening and water reduction, ensure that the mortar is easy to apply and has good uniformity.

Enhance bonding strength: Ensure a strong bond between the insulation layer and the substrate through polymer modification and adhesives.

Improve crack resistance and durability: Reduce cracks and improve the impact resistance and waterproof performance of the system through fiber reinforcement and hydrophobicity.

Optimize performance: Adapt to construction requirements under different environmental conditions through the effects of early strength agents and antifreeze agents.
